The phrase “Vladimir Nabokov and translation” denotes a problem, a conundrum, a paradox. A self-professed enemy of totalitarianism, a naturalized US citizen who traced his lineage to “a classless intelligentsia,” Nabokov the translation theorist has come to betoken elitist, dogmatic intolerance irreconcilable with pluralistic notions of truth.
