Este artigo analisa as transformações urbanas em Riba d’Ave (Portugal) para evidenciar a relação do espaço urbano com narrativas memoriais hegemônicas sobre a fábrica Sampaio, Ferreira & Cia. e seu fundador, Narciso Ferreira. Para isto, enfocam-se dois momentos: entre as décadas de 1930 e 1970, quando a produção do espaço urbano local foi intensificada pelos investimentos dos herdeiros de Narciso Ferreira em obras sociais; e nas duas primeiras décadas do século XX, quando a valorização do patrimônio local se converteu em uma forma de ressignificar e reorganizar o espaço urbano. As transformações urbanas contribuíram para reforçar essas memórias dominantes e reproduzi-las tanto no período de funcionamento da fábrica quanto depois do encerramento de suas atividades produtivas. Isso porque, no presente, com a patrimonialização da área urbana de Riba d’Ave, a produção do espaço urbano também foi impactada pelas narrativas memoriais hegemônicas. Desta forma, assim como a materialidade urbana, as ações para valorizar seu patrimônio acabaram por se converter em uma manifestação destas memórias, adequadas à nova realidade e apresentadas como discursos patrimoniais.

This article analyzes urban transformations in Riba d’Ave (Portugal) to highlight the relationship between urban space and hegemonic memory narratives about the Sampaio, Ferreira & Co. factory and its founder, Narciso Ferreira. For this, two moments are focused: between the 1930s and 1970s, when the production of local urban space was intensified by investments from Narciso Ferreira's heirs in social infrastructure; and in the first two decades of the 20th century, when the value of local heritage became a way of giving new meaning to and reorganizing urban space. Urban transformations contributed to reinforce these dominant memories and reproduce them both when the factory was operational and after the end of its productive activities. This is because, at present, with the heritage making of the urban area of Riba d'Ave, the production of urban space was also impacted by hegemonic memory narratives. Thus, just as the urban materiality, actions to value its heritage ended up becoming a manifestation of these memories, adapted to the new reality and presented as heritage discourses.
