A antiga «Fábrica de Móveis Giestas de Valbom, Lda.» foi fundada em Valbom, concelho de Gondomar (limítrofe da cidade do Porto, Portugal) na década de sessenta do século XX, pelos irmãos Mário Giesta, Hernâni Giesta e Virgílio Giesta. Nos primeiros anos da década de setenta, esta fábrica, liderada por Mário Giesta, era já um dos principais centros de empregabilidade de Valbom. Rapidamente, este centro fabril tornou-se referência a nível nacional na indústria do mobiliário, pela excelência técnica e pela transmissão aos mais jovens do conhecimento da arte da marcenaria em contexto oficinal. Partindo da apresentação dos desenhos deste rico acervo, pretende-se demonstrar a importância e o impacto desta oficina na produção de mobiliário no concelho de Gondomar, na segunda metade do século XX. O valor patrimonial deste legado permite, igualmente, enquadrar a oficina Giesta na herança da arte da marcenaria, atividade que marcou a história deste Município no decurso dos séculos XIX e XX.

The former “Fábrica de Móveis Giestas de Valbom, Lda.” was founded in Valbom, municipality of Gondomar (bordering the city of Porto, Portugal) in the 1960s, by the brothers Mário Giesta, Hernâni Giesta and Virgílio Giesta. In the early seventies, this factory, led by Mário Giesta, was already one of the main employment centers in Valbom. Quickly, this manufacturing center became a national reference in the furniture industry, for its technical excellence and for transmitting to the youngest the knowledge of the art of carpentry in a workshop context. Starting from the presentation and analysis of the drawings of this rich collection, our aim is to demonstrate the importance and impact of this workshop in the production of furniture in the municipality of Gondomar, in the second half of the 20th century. The heritage value of this legacy also allows the Giesta workshop to be part of the heritage of the art of carpentry, an activity that marked the history of this municipality in the course of the 19th and 20th centuries.
