Entre las décadas de 1940 y 1960 por primera vez en la historia de la capital venezolana la industria petrolera devino más que visible, a través de la transferencia de un porcentaje del sector administrativo de las corporaciones petroleras más importantes que operaban en Venezuela. Partiendo de este hecho, este artículo aborda, por un lado, un breve análisis de los principales eventos que condujeron a dichas sociedades petroleras a tener una mayor presencia en la ciudad de Caracas. Por otro, examinar como esta industria introdujo nuevas realidades urbano-arquitectónicas a partir de la construcción de nuevos edificios sede y la reutilización de las tramas urbanas de determinados sectores de la ciudad. Finalmente, la formulación de criterios de valor que contribuyan a la valoración, difusión y protección del patrimonio industrial petrolero presente en la capital venezolana desde mediados del siglo XX.

Between the 1940s and 1960s, for the first time in the history of the Venezuelan capital, the oil industry became more visible through the transfer of a percentage of the administrative sector of the most important oil corporations operating in Venezuela. From this fact, this article presents, on the one hand, a brief analysis of the main events that led these oil companies to have a greater presence in the city of Caracas. On the other hand, it examines how this industry introduced new urban-architectural realities through the construction of new headquarters buildings and the reuse of the urban fabric of certain sectors of the city. Finally, the formulation of value criteria that contribute to the valorization, diffusion and protection of the industrial oil heritage present in the Venezuelan capital since the middle of the 20th century.
