Um edifício industrial não é construído com o intuito de conservar determinada simbologia ou memória, porém acaba sempre por ser encarado como uma parte indispensável e vivificadora de uma identidade cultural, uma vez que se torna portador de significados pela sua interação com a sociedade com o passar dos tempos. Esta memória, classificada como social e coletiva, encontra-se regularmente ligada à arquitetura, onde se preserva a memória do trabalho humano. Este património apresenta também valores científicos, tecnológicos e estéticos ao nível da arquitetura industrial, que nos levam a classificá-los como edifícios de exceção, uma vez que marcaram uma época em termos de produção, tipologias e paisagens (Carta de Nizhny Tagil sobre o Património Industrial, 2003).As razões que justificam a proteção do património industrial decorrem essencialmente do valor universal e da singularidade de sítios excecionais. A fotografia tornou-se, assim, numa excelente ferramenta que contribui para a salvaguarda e preservação da memória, uma vez que permite realizar um registo do passado, do presente e até do futuro das indústrias.As viagens pelo Alentejo resultam em visitas aos espaços indústrias por ele disseminado, de onde surge um registo fotográfico que se tornou pertinente e urgente compilar, como contributo para a preservação da memória dos edifícios fabris. Os cadernos de viagem são um roteiro fotográfico entre Portalegre, Crato e Ponte de Sor, que contemplam paisagens industriais, indústrias abandonadas e alguns antigos espaços fabris regenerados/recuperados.

An Industrial Building is not built with the intent to preserve certain symbology or memory, however it ends up being seen as an indispensable and invigorating part of a cultural identity, as it becomes a carrier of meanings through its interaction with society as time goes by. This memory, classified as social and collective, is usually linked to architecture, where memory of human work is preserved. This heritage presents also scientific, technological and aesthetic values at the industrial architecture level, leading us to classify as buildings of exception, since they marked an era in terms of production, types and landscapes (Carta de Nizhny Tagil sobre o Património Industrial, 2003).The reasons that justify the protection of industrial heritage run from the universal value and singularity of exceptional sites. Photography became an excellent tool for the safeguard and preservation of memory, since it records the past, present and even the future of industries.Traveling through Alentejo results in visits to industrial places spread through the region, creating a photographic record that became important and urgent to organize as a contribute to the preservation of the factory buildings’ memory. The travel journals are a photographic tour between Portalegre, Crato and Ponte de Sor, where the industrial landscapes, abandoned industry and some renewed/restored factory equipment are registered.
