La sala de máquinas fue un edificio fundamental en el sistema de generación de frío del frigorífico, allí funcionaban los compresores de amoníaco. Los sucesivos cambios en el momento de su construcción, a inicios de la década de 1920, lo hacen esencial a la hora del conocimiento del contexto empresarial, comercial y tecnológico, en lo que refiere al mercado mundial de carnes refrigeradas. Finalizada su vida útil, el edificio recibió intervenciones que afectaron su aspecto exterior, su funcionamiento original, y dejaron ocultos aspectos funcionales esenciales para su actual conocimiento y conservación. El presente texto expone sobre las investigaciones históricas, el diagnóstico técnico y las acciones de conservación llevadas adelante en el edificio, que ratifican su excepcionalidad, y su alto grado de autenticidad e integridad, en el conjunto del Sitio Industrial, Patrimonio Mundial.

The engine room was a fundamental building in the cold generation system of the refrigerator, where the ammonia compressors worked. The successive changes at the time of its construction, at the beginning of the 1920s, make it essential when it comes to knowledge of the business, commercial and technological context, in what refers to the world market of refrigerated meats. At the end of its useful life, the building received interventions that affected its external appearance, its original operation, and left hidden functional aspects essential for its current knowledge and conservation. This text exposes the historical investigations, the technical diagnosis and the conservation actions carried out in the building, which ratify its exceptionality, and its high degree of authenticity and integrity, in the whole of the Industrial Site, World Heritage.
