Uno de los procesos quizá más significativos durante la expansión colonial española en América fue la implantación del sistema de la tenencia de la tierra, que desde el siglo XVI comprendió en establecer un modelo de hacienda siguiendo la referencia europea, adaptándose a la realidad americana y estableciéndose un paralelismo entre los dos continentes en cuanto a la estructura de la producción agroindustrial. Como parte de una estancia académica desarrollada en 2017 entre la Universidad de Sevilla y la Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, se realizó un análisis comparativo regional entre un grupo de haciendas sevillanas y yucatecas, con el objetivo de establecer nexos comparativos entre las mismas que consiguieran crear parámetros comunes. Este análisis mayormente tipológico recorre la evolución del término hacienda y sus aplicaciones físicas en el territorio, con la selección de una muestra de cada región y los respectivos análisis de la conformación del paisaje, de costumbres y actividades sociales de las comunidades en los poblados y la infraestructura generada a través de las haciendas como célula productiva. El estudio arrojó elementos que demuestran la evolución de una estructura arquitectónica y funcional compleja, manteniendo aspectos compartidos a pesar de las diferencias geográficas.

One of the perhaps most significant processes during the Spanish colonial expansion in America was the implementation of the land tenure system, which involved, since the sixteenth century, establishing a hacienda model following the European reference, adapting it to the American reality and establishing a parallelism between the two continents in terms of the structure of agroindustrial production. As part of an academic stay developed in 2017 between the Universidad de Sevilla and the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, a regional comparative analysis was carried out between a group of Sevillian and Yucatecan haciendas, with the aim of establishing comparative links between them that managed to create common parameters. This mostly typological analysis traces the evolution of the term hacienda and its physical applications in the territory, with the selection of a sample from each region and the respective analysis of the landscape conformation, customs and social activities of the communities in the towns and the infrastructure generated through the haciendas as a productive cell. The study showed elements that demonstrate the evolution of a complex architectural and functional structure, maintaining shared aspects despite the geographical differences.
