El Real Colegio-Seminario de Corpus Christi, fue erigido por el arzobispo de València Juan de Ribera (Sevilla, 1632-València, 1611), en cumplimiento del mandato tridentino, y jugaría un papel esencial como espacio simbólico para la configuración sociopolítica de València entre los siglos XVI y XVII. Por ello, coincidiendo con la convocatoria de Cortes del Reino entre enero y febrero de 1604, Juan de Ribera aprovechó la presencia del rey Felipe III y su séquito de nobles para realizar con lujosa pompa el traslado del Santísimo Sacramento desde la catedral de València hasta la inacabada capilla del Real Colegio-Seminario. La documentación completa e inédita conservada en su archivo permitirá incorporar a la historiografía musical este acontecimiento sónico, novedoso por su carácter religioso a la par que cortesano que involucró a todos los estamentos políticos, las órdenes religiosas, los gremios y los habitantes de la ciudad. Con la crónica del monje Jerónimo Pradas y la ayuda del mapa de València del matemático Vicente Tosca (1651-1723), se podrá visualizar el trayecto realizado a través de la ciudad: el mapa, pese a ser cien años posterior (1704), refleja de manera casi exacta el recorrido de la procesión de 1604.
