A Sé de Portalegre acolheu, desde os seus primórdios, um serviço musical de contornos idênticos aos das restantes sedes episcopais. Depois de dar a conhecer os momentos fundacionais da diocese bem como da construção da catedral, pretendemos, em breves linhas, resgatar do esquecimento os indivíduos e as funções musicais desempenhadas pelos seus principais agentes desde meados do século XVI até 1917, data da extinção do serviço musical da catedral. Faremos, igualmente, uma pequena incursão pelos documentos musicais existentes no Arquivo da Sé de Portalegre, especialmente quanto ao tipo de repertório e compositores representados, com particular ênfase dado aos que fizeram a sua formação ou desenvolveram a sua actividade na própria catedral.

Since its beginnings, the Portalegre Cathedral has hosted a musical service similar to the other episcopal centers. We will present the founding moments of the diocese as well as the construction of the cathedral, after which we intend, in brief lines, to rescue from oblivion the individuals and the musical functions performed by their main agents from the middle of the sixteenth century until 1917. We will also make a small survey into the musical documents from Portalegre Cathedral Archive regarding, repertoire tipology and composers represented, emphasizing those who have been trained or have developed their activity in the Cathedral itself.
