Does the fact that there are, in our decisions and actions, emotional components endanger the notion of responsibility ? The rationalist tradition was inclined to give a negative answer, arguing that the individuals are able to control their emotions. Irrationalists, on the contrary, thought that non rational elements are embedded in our decisions and actions, therefore it is impossible to ground the idea of responsibility. Starting from this last argument, the paper tries to show that irrationalists’ conclusion is not compelling.
