Nello studio dei contesti a cremazione, l’integrazione tra dato archeologico e antropologico permette una più completa caratterizzazione del defunto e una più nitida lettura dei « gesti funerari » che hanno preceduto/accompagnato la sua sepoltura. Le due urne ostiensi di Larcius Felix e di Onesime rappresentano, da questo punto di vista, un eccezionale rinvenimento, in quanto la presenza delle epigrafi – che identificano il genere e l’età di morte degli individui contenuti negli ossuari – ha dato modo di verificare le stime biologiche ottenute dalle analisi dei resti cremati. Inoltre, i dati registrati nel corso del microscavo delle urne, le osservazioni tafonomiche e le valutazioni sul grado di rappresentatività dei singoli distretti scheletrici hanno consentito di ricostruire alcuni aspetti del rituale.

In the study of cremations, the integration between archaeological and anthropological data allows a more complete description of the deceased and a deeper understanding of the « funeral gestures » that preceded/accompanied the burial. In this view, the two urns attributed to Larcius Felix and Onesime represent an exceptional finding. The presence of the epigraphs – which identify the gender and the age-at-death of the two individuals – has allowed to verify the biological determinations obtained from the analysis of cremated remains. Moreover, the data recorded during the micro-excavation of the urns, the tafonomic observations and the assessments of the degree of representativeness of the individual skeletal districts have allowed to reconstruct some specific aspects of the ritual.
