In his biography of the Archduke Albert, Aubertus Miraeus recalled that Albert often invited the mathematician Michel Coignet to his court. Since 1596, Coignet, formerly in the service of the city of Antwerp, had been employed by the Archduke, he worked as a military advisor and accidently acted as a middleman in acquiring books and globes for the court.
