In his biography of the Archduke Albert, Aubertus Miraeus recalled that Albert often invited the mathematician Michel Coignet to his court. Since 1596, Coignet, formerly in the service of the city of Antwerp, had been employed by the Archduke, he worked as a military advisor and accidently acted as a middleman in acquiring books and globes for the court. But it is not clear what exactly the duties of Coignet were. Coignet was involved in the siege of Ostend, probably as an artillery expert. ...
