Villalón écrit en 1558 une des premières grammaires complètes du castillan. Il contribue de fait à la description et à la codification du castillan, ainsi qu’à l’invention d’un métalangage. La présente étude retrace en six chapitres la trajectoire sinueuse des premiers grammairiens des langues romanes, en se centrant sur la grammaire de Villalón et en reliant notamment cette dernière à celle de Nebrija. Elle vise à éclairer les modalités de standardisation et de description métalinguistique du castillan, à partir des notions de conscience linguistique, de norme, de phrase, d’article et de complétude.

Villalón escribió una de las primeras gramáticas completas del castellano en 1558. Contribuyó a la descripción y codificación del castellano, pero también a la invención de un metalenguaje propio del castellano. El presente estudio recorre en seis capítulos la sinuosa trayectoria de los primeros gramáticos de las lenguas románicas, centrándose en la gramática de Villalón y relacionándola con la de Nebrija. Pretende arrojar luz sobre las modalidades de estandardización y descripción metalingüística del castellano, a partir de las nociones de conciencia lingüística, norma, oración, artículo y completud.

Villalón wrote one of the first complete grammars of Castilian in 1558. He contributed to the description and codification of Castilian, as well as to the invention of a metalanguage specific to Castilian. The present study retraces in six chapters the sinuous trajectory of the first grammarians of the Romance languages, focusing on Villalón's grammar and linking it to that of Nebrija. It aims to shed light on the modalities of standardisation and metalinguistic description of Castilian, based on the notions of linguistic awareness, norm, sentence, article and completeness.
