Here we present the interest that resides in proposing the inscription of the city walls and Hevsel gardens to UNESCO World Heritage list. We describe and explain the natural and historical wealth of the site, from its Assyrian origins to the present day, and its importance in the history of Mesopotamia. We also present the history of the site’s enhancement and of the management plan developed for this application, including the protection of animal and plant species, the cleaning-up of the gardens and, more generally, all of the actions undertaken to protect the multiple forms and expressions of this heritage.
