The strength of this story by Jeyamokan lies in it having for its theme a reality which is still powerful and current, in a form which is particularly symbolic of the Tamil landscape: a big Saiva monastery, whose fictive designation is quasi-transparent. The description of the physical and carnal decomposition of one of these bastions of orthodoxy is sufficiently striking to convey to the reader the protagonist’s disgusted reaction.
