IFRA Ibadan L'Institut Français de Recherche en Afrique (IFRA) est un organisme de recherches en sciences sociales dépendant du Ministère des Affaires Etrangères et destiné à initier, stimuler et soutenir des travaux universitaires et scientifiques portant sur les pays anglophones d'Afrique et menés en coopération entre chercheurs français et africains. Implanté à l'origine à Nairobi au Kenya d'où il couvre l'Afrique Orientale, l'Institut s'est doté depuis 1990 d'un centre sis à l'Université d'Ibadan au Nigeria rayonnant sur l'Afrique de l'Ouest. L'IFRA Ibadan, seul ou en partenariat avec des institutions françaises, africaines ou internationales, dirige des programmes de recherche en sciences sociales et humaines et accorde, sur ces programmes, des allocations et des subventions de recherche. L'Institut gère également un centre de documentation, favorise les échanges scientifiques entre chercheurs français et africains, organise des colloques et publie des documents de travail et des ouvrages. IFRA Ibadan The French Institute for Research in Africa / Institut Français de Recherche en Afrique (IFRA) is a non profit research institute whose programmes are geared towards the promotion of research in social sciences and humanities in English-speaking Africa. It was first established in 1980 in Nairobi, Kenya; in 1986, a branch was opened in Harare, Zimbabwe. IFRA Ibadan, which is located within the Institute of African Studies of the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, was set up in 1990. IFRA's mandate includes subsidizing research programmes, granting research allowances to academics and scholars, publishing research results, holding workshops and symposia, etc. It also includes facilitating university exchanges between scholars in France and Africa. Over the past few years, the most salient programmes of IFRA, Ibadan have revolved around problems of democratic transition and urban sociology, especially urban violence in Africa. However, a large sample of disciplines has also been represented, ranging from history to musicology, economics, linguistics, etc. The institute also runs a library and publishes a newsletter.
