Résumé
The following paper brings together discussions of gender, health promotion and the determinants of health. It refers broadly to gender as a determinant of health using examples and statistics from Canada. Despite the importance of attending to the social determinants of health, it is argued there are dangers, if not only shortcomings, to a certain broad determinants approach which ignores the differences of the everyday context and lived realities of peoples’ lives.
