The implementation of an Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) procedure in French Guiana (between 2007 and 2016) was the first project of its kind in France. Nobody involved was fully prepared, not even the local stakeholders who had requested the creation of such a mechanism as a prerequisite for the establishment of the French Guiana Amazonian Park.
