On a first glance, orders and religious communities only seem to have played a minor role in the documents of the Second Vatican Council. Their importance for the conciliar and post-conciliar Church is only to be recognized on a second glance. But then it shows how artfully the role of the orders was integrated into the ecclesiastical structure. In introducing the theme, I would like to offer two aspects.
