Résumé
Duchesne’s presentation of species in the Essai began with the bottle gourds, currently Lagenaria siceraria and ended with the watermelon, currently Citrullus lanatus. In between, are Cucurbita maxima, Cucurbita moschata and Cucurbita pepo, in that order. Of the 98 cultigens grown by Duchesne during the period of his experimentation with cross-pollination, 93 were of C. pepo and only two were of C. maxima and three of C. moschata.
