Résumé 0

Many more people should have survived the 26th December 2004 event if they have had a basic knowledge on tsunamis. The Indonesian public, as well as authorities, must be educated to face tsunami risks. NGO Planet Risk used scientific findings obtained during the Tsunarisque program and scientists’ advices for building adapted prevention actions among the Indonesian population. A tsunami education campaign (including photographs and posters exhibitions, distribution of leaflets, documentary broadcasting and the creation of a permanent sensitization centre) was implemented first on the southern Javanese coasts. Through these educative actions, our aim is to encourage the development of tsunami-resilient communities.
