Résumé
The purpose of this article is to produce a brief overview of the history and the multicultural environment which saw the emergence of new features in the fortified architecture of muslim powers in south India from the end of the xiiith century to the rise of the Moguls.In this overview we will consider and compare the different historical sources, epigraphy, construction techniques and gun-artillery to give a comprehensive view of the problematics the scholar has to deal with, before any archaeological approach can be undertaken.
