Suzanne Bing (1885-1967) fut la collaboratrice privilégiée et la compagne secrète de Jacques Copeau (1879-1949), figure majeure du patrimoine théâtral et culturel français. Cet article rend compte des résultats d’une recherche motivée par la découverte des archives personnelles de Suzanne Bing. Tout en contribuant à faire connaître la biographie et l’apport de Suzanne Bing à l’histoire du théâtre et de l’école du Vieux Colombier, il s’agit de s’interroger aussi bien sur les sources et sur la fabrique de l’histoire du théâtre que sur l’accès des femmes à la profession de metteur en scène dans la première moitié du xxe siècle.

Suzanne Bing (1885-1967) was the main collaborator and secret partner of Jacques Copeau (1879-1949), a major figure in France’s dramatic and cultural heritage. The article presents the findings of research inspired by the discovery of Suzanne Bing’s personal archives. It provides greater detail of Suzanne Bing’s biography and her contribution to the history of the theatre and school of the Vieux Colombier, examining the sources and fabrication of the history of the theatre and women’s access to the profession of producer in the first half of the 20th century.
