Il Sistema Informativo Archeologico ci ha permesso di archiviare e classificare tutta la documentazione archeologica e storica necessaria a ricostruire architetture e paesaggi della città. Uno tra i documenti più importanti è, senza dubbio, la Forma Vrbis marmorea di età severiana. Il testo illustra la procedura tecnica ideata e utilizzata per tradurre i frammenti di marmo superstiti in una cartografia geo-riferita, l’applicazione di questa procedura al contesto del Campo Marzio centrale e alcune considerazioni sull’utilizzo della cartografia così realizzata come fonte affidabile per la ricostruzione della topografia di Roma antica.

Le Sistema Informativo Archeologico nous a permis d’archiver et de classer toute la documentation archéologique et historique nécessaire pour reconstituer l’architecture et les paysages de la cité. Un des documents les plus importants est, sans aucun doute, la Forma Vrbis marmorea d’époque sévérienne. L’article illustre la procédure technique imaginée et utilisée pour transférer les fragments de marbre conservés dans une cartographie géo-référencée, l’application de cette procédure au contexte du Champ de Mars central et quelques considérations sur l’utilisation de la cartographie ainsi réalisée comme source fiable pour la reconstitution de la topographie de la Rome antique.

The Archaeological lnformation System we patented allowed us to file and classify any archaeological and/or historical document, available for the reconstruction of architectures and changing urban landscape of ancient Rome. One of the major documents we had to deal with is the fragmentary marble plan of Severan age, known as Forma Vrbis. The paper presents the technical procedure we developed and applied to turn the surviving fragments of the marble plan into a geo referenced chart; the mapping of the central area of Campus Martius as a representative case study and some issues related to the use of maps created using such a procedure as reliable sources for the analyses and reconstruction of the ancient topography of Rome.
