Perpignan during the first half of the nineteenth century: few industries (some manufacture of common cloth, candles, eau-de-vie, pottery, chocolate and the preparation of leather) in a region rapidly specializing in viticulture, as the woods and oliviers of the hinterland began to disappear. The population of Perpignan, 13, 365 in 1774, fell during the French Revolution in the wake of the considerable emigration from the department of the Pyrénées Orientales: 14, 363 in 1816 and 18, 193 in 1...
