For some time, I have been interested in Boeotian pottery and I have begun to question more and more the justification of the many disparaging remarks made about the slow wit, lack of technical proficiency and generally imitative disposition of the Boeotian painters. The quality of Boeotian pottery is, in general, rather second rate and it is quite obvious that the Boeotian painters were strongly influenced by Corinth and Athens. But did they imitate the motifs?
