In November 2009, the construction of minarets was banned in Switzerland (home to 400,000 Muslims of mainly Turkish and Bosnian origin). Ironically, a Sikh temple, complete with ‘a gleaming white crown’ had been inaugurated in Langenthal (the town in which the minaret was being proposed to be built) in 2006 without any signs of protest.
