The Battle of Fromelles The Battle of Fromelles in Northern France was fought on the 19th and 20th July 1916 as a diversionary attack in the early days of the Battle of the Somme. It was launched against a German stronghold by soldiers from the Australian Imperial Force who were fighting alongside British troops.
