Under the Constitutional Act of 1982, Canada’s Aboriginal people fall into three categories: Métis, First Nations, and Inuit. It recognizes the existing Aboriginal rights in Canada which protect the cultures of the Native people. That was a huge step forward and contributed tremendously to the awakening of Canada’s Indigenous population.
