Les fouilles et surveillances de travaux réalisées aux abords de la cathédrale d’Évreux ont permis, malgré des conditions d’intervention souvent difficiles et des fenêtres d’observation très réduites, de documenter près de 2 000 ans d’occupation urbaine. Nous avons ainsi pu aborder des questions liées à la structuration de Mediolanum Aulercorum, à son enceinte tardo-antique, aux occupations alto-médiévales, à la cathédrale, son cimetière paroissial et ses maisons canoniales, mais aussi aux vestiges plus récents, jusqu’aux traces de la seconde guerre mondiale et aux travaux de reconstruction de la seconde moitié du xxe siècle.

The excavations and monitoring of work carried out in the area surrounding Évreux Cathedral made it possible to document nearly 2,000 years of urban occupation, despite often difficult intervention conditions and very small observation windows. As a result, we were able to tackle some issues related to the structuring of Mediolanum Aulercorum, to its Late Antiquity town walls, to the occupations in the Late Middle Ages, to the cathedral, its parish cemetery and its canons’ houses, as well as to more recent remains, right up to traces from the Second World War and to reconstruction work in the second half of the 20th Century.
