Andrew Herod, Professeur à la University of Georgia (UGA), aux États-Unis, est le premier et peut-être principal artisan de la « Labor Geography », expression qu’il a proposée pour qualifier une approche spécifique plus qu’un simple objet ou thème de recherche. Lors d’un entretien épistolaire en anglais, ici traduit et remanié, il a accepté de raconter sa trajectoire et les circonstances dans lesquelles il a été amené à proposer cette nouvelle orientation. Inscrite dans la filiation marxiste d’un David Harvey ou d’un Neil Smith, qui a dirigé sa thèse, sa géographie des travailleurs et travailleuses s’en démarque sur plusieurs plans. Andrew Herod en rappelle les principaux points et enjeux, les stratégies mises en œuvre pour la promouvoir et les points de débats qu’elle a pu mettre en avant et provoquer.
