En 1992, Les Annales du Midi faisait un bilan historiographique de la recherche sur les années 1940 en Provence et constatait un retard certain par rapport à d’autres régions et à l’historiographie nationale. Qu’en est-il trente ans après ? Cet article, qui se veut moins problématique que descriptif, entend faire le point et fournir un outil pour les jeunes chercheurs. Il constate les progrès considérables qui ont été faits dans ce domaine qui placent la région sans doute parmi les mieux étudiées. Il signale également les chantiers en cours ou à défricher. Mais l’inquiétude aujourd’hui porte sur une relève des générations d’historiens qui n’est plus assurée.

In 1992, Les Annales du Midi developed an historiographic review of research covering Provence in the 1940s and found that, to some extent, it lagged behind when compared with other regions and with national historiography. What is the situation thirty years on? This article, whose approach is more descriptive than critical, intends to take stock and act as a tool for young researchers. The author notes the remarkable progress made in this field, today positioning the region as possibly one of the most studied. He also points to ongoing research projects or aspects that remain understudied. Current concerns now pertain to the absence of a new generation of historians ready to pursue the efforts of their predecessors.
