Anita G.’s 75th anniversary, to which the artist dedicated a short text entitled “Portrait of an Individualist” in 2012, implicitly extends to other anniversaries which interweave the fictional and real spheres, and the public and private spheres. This is symbolic of the many strata of time and perspectives which characterise the lives and the singular chronicle, whether it be atemporal (achronia) or alternative (uchronia), that Kluge writes following the compass of the future perfect. He has taken on the superhuman project of revisiting and retelling every story under the influence of the present time and of his individual emotion. The article, which touches upon various notable anniversaries, aims to show the way in which Kluge’s storytelling intertwines retrodiction and anticipation, circumstantial poetry and genealogical writing, to create counter-narratives which deconstruct and reconstruct stories of lives and lies, but still expressing their vitalist approval of the world.
