Ab dem 17. Jahrhundert unterscheidet sich das diplomatische Zeremoniell zunehmend vom Hofzeremoniell und besetzt einen spezifischen Platz unter den anderen Formen von Staatswissen. Diese Entwicklung hat zur Folge, dass Schriften historischer, politischer und journalistischer Natur nun die Diplomatie beschreiben und auch erzählen. In diesen Publikationen wird das Zeremoniell als eine Folge von Szenen dargestellt, in denen die Akteure (oder die Schauspieler) die Hierarchien und die politischen Strukturen konstruieren, indem sie auf Symbole zurückgreifen und die Machtstrukturen performativ zum Ausdruck bringen. Im Beitrag werden die Auswirkungen und die Entwicklungen dieser Materialisierung des Politischen durch die neuen ‚Zeremonialwissenschaften‘ analysiert.

À partir du xviie siècle, le cérémonial diplomatique s’émancipe du cérémonial de cour pour occuper une place spécifique parmi les autres savoirs d’État ; cette évolution se traduit notamment par l’apparition d’écrits de nature historique, politique et journalistique traitant de l’État et de la diplomatie sur un mode descriptif et narratif. Ces publications présentent le cérémonial comme une succession de tableaux dans lequel les acteurs construisent, de manière symbolique et souvent performative, les hiérarchies et les structures politiques du temps. C’est à cette matérialisation du politique, spectacle mis en récit par la nouvelle « science du cérémonial », qu’est consacré cet article.

From the 17th Century on the diplomatic ceremonial becomes increasingly different from the court ceremonial and thus constitutes a specific part within the state knowledge. As a consequence of this evolution historic, political and journalistic writings about the state and its diplomacy arise. In these texts a narrative and descriptive style is adopted. The ceremonial is presented as a series of scenes in which the actors construct the hierarchies and political structures in a symbolic and performative way. The article deals with the evolutions and the consequences of the materialization of power seen as a spectacle through the new “ceremonial sciences”.
