The present article shows that Denis Johnston’s 1956 pageant of the adventures of Cuchulainn, the hero of the Irish saga The Táin, was designed to stage humankind’s postwar trauma in the middle of a festival dedicated to Irish culture, thus enhancing the cultural bonds between Ireland and the rest of the world and bridging the gap between national culture and international post-World War 2 concerns.
