Cécile Girardin, « ‘Such Plotting! Such Symbolism!’: Narratives of Power in V.S. Naipaul’s Essays », Commonwealth Essays and Studies, ID : 10.4000/ces.8725
V.S. Naipaul’s political thought as developed in The Writer and the World stems from the minute observation of the processes of empowerment in postcolonial countries, and the causes of failure. By debunking political impostures and the debilitating theatricality of dictatorships, the writer constructs a case against simplification and becomes the playwright of a world that oscillates between tragedy and farce.
