L’essor des religions d’origine africaine aux Etats-Unis s’inscrit dans un vaste mouvement politique de réafricanisation de la communauté afro-américaine. En revenant sur l’évolution du nationalisme noir, cet article montre comment ce phénomène de réafricanisation est né dans un contexte de lutte séparatiste des populations afro-américaines pour l’indépendance. Introduisant les notions de communautés transnationales et d’identité ethnique, le processus de réafricanisation de la communauté noire américaine entraîne alors, aujourd’hui, de profonds bouleversements dans la conception du nationalisme noir et des idées de Nation et de séparatisme sur lequel il se fonde.

The rise of the African based religions in the United States is part of a vast political process of reafricanization of the African American community. By reconsidering the evolution of Black nationalism, this article shows how this effort of reafricanization was born in the context of African American fight toward separatism and independence. Introducing the notions of transnational communities and ethnic identity, the effort of reafricanization is today leading to a new acception and definition of the idea of African American nationalism and of the concepts of Nation and separatism at its basis.
