Pendant 25 mois, Anne Frank a rédigé son journal intime. En mars 1944, après avoir entendu sur la radio clandestine néerlandaise un appel à préserver les écrits de la guerre, elle a entrepris de le réécrire pour en tirer un livre. Un travail inachevé au moment de sa déportation, mais que son père Otto a mené à bien après la guerre, à partir de ce qui avait pu être sauvé: une moitié du journal, des feuilles volantes de sa réécriture, et d’autres textes d’Anne. L’ensemble a été publié intégralement depuis peu, et quelques pages, inédites en français, sont ici traduites pour la première fois.

During 25 months Anne Frank wrote in her diary. In March 1944, after having heard an appeal on the wireless to preserve documents written during the war, she started to rewrite her diary in order to turn it into a novel. These rewritings were unfinished when she was deported, and her father did the best he could with the material he had at his disposition: half of the diary, loose sheets with rewritings, and some other texts. Only recently have the complete works of Anne Frank been made wholly available to the public, and certain pages, hitherto unpublished in French, are translated here for the first time.
