We present a longitudinal observation of a 4 and-a-half-year-old pupil. She is in the middle section of a kindergarten with a partial immersion curriculum. We will discover the strategies Caroline sets up in order to communicate, express her desires and intentions. To achieve the speech acts, different types of code switching are used in alternation. Her very subtle use of her L1 (French) and L2 (German) shows a particularly high level of linguistic awareness on her part.
