En tant que professeure d’italien et de musique à Bard College (New York), les recherches de l’auteure sont centrées surtout sur l’opéra et le théâtre italiens des 17ème-18ème siècles. Elle termine actuellement une monographie, provisoirement intitulée Pulcinella’s Brood, sur la diffusion du célèbre personnage de la commedia dell’arte. L’italien est sa spécialité professionnelle, mais cet article explore les langues de son enfance, retraçant le paysage langagier changeant de sa famille, depuis ses grands- parents nés en Pologne à sa mère israélienne, jusqu’à sa propre éducation au Texas.

An Assistant Professor of Italian and Music at Bard College (New York), the author’s research focuses primarily on Italian opera and theater of the 17th and 18th centuries. She is currently completing her first monograph, tentatively entitled Pulcinella’s Brood, on the diffusion of the famous commedia dell’arte stock character. Though Italian has become her professional focus, this article explores the languages of her childhood: it traces the shifting linguistic landscape of her family, from her Polish-born grandparents to her Israeli mother and her own upbringing in Texas.
