Elisabetta Maino, « Pour une généalogie de l'africanisme portugais », Cahiers d’études africaines, ID : 10.4000/etudesafricaines.14922
For a Genealogy of African Studies in Portugal. The process of formulating a body of knowledge in social science studies of Africa is examined by placing it in its socio-political context in Portugal. Three periods mark breaking points: discovery, institutionalization and emancipation. They are described along with their major orientations by using examples. Questions are raised about the conditions for producing this knowledge and about the status of those who produced it and of their writings. The hypothesis is advanced that the exclusion and autarchy of institutional arrangements for rationalizing this knowledge were, during the colonial era, a consequence of political changes instead of being inherent in the Portuguese scientific model. A few points of continuity come under discussion that mark the contemporary production of knowledge, in particular the "fuzzy margins of the space of research". A contribution is made to thought on the political and institutional implications of the process of producing knowledge in a scientific field.
