Féral Benga constitue une figure originale de danseur au XXe siècle, oscillant entre les personnages stéréotypés et dénudés du music-hall et les créations chorégraphiques personnelles. En dépit des stéréotypes entourant chacune de ses prestations, il a pu faire dialoguer les cultures africaines et européennes, les traditions et la modernité. Il se présente ainsi comme un discret mais essentiel pionnier de la rénovation chorégraphique et de la reconnaissance de la danse africaine comme art à part entière.

Féral Benga constitutes dancer’s original figure in the xxth century, oscillating between the stereotypical and bare characters of the music hall and the personal choreographic creations. In spite of stereotypes surrounding each of his performances, he was able to make have a dialogue the African and European cultures, the traditions and the modernity. He so appears as a discreet but the main part pioneer of the choreographic renovation and the recognition of the African dance as the separate art.
