As the restitution of African cultural property polarizes the debates, how can the voices of/for return be heard? How can we designate the things, objects, artifacts, goods or works of arts returned to or awaited on the continent? How can we account for the points of view, imaginations and disputes surrounding their future? These questions are addressed throughout the twenty-four contributions by authors from Africa and Europe in this volume. The political and legal stakes of restitution are followed by a series of investigations, carried out in or from the countries of return, and analyses of colonial, postcolonial and diasporic positioning and mobilizations. The final section looks at the musealities and heritages shaken up by the ongoing process. From questions of restitution to issues of return, this issue also proposes an epistemological and methodological decentering of research practices.
