San Basilio, village afrocolombien situé au nord de la Colombie, a vécu jusque dans les années 1970 dans un isolement relatif mais, notamment durant les années 1980, après son ouverture, la société palenquera a commencé à se confronter à d’importantes transformations. La nouvelle Constitution de 1991 qui a reconnu la Colombie comme un État « multiculturel », « pluriethnique » et « multilingue », ainsi que la mise en valeur de l’héritage africain dans ce village, promue par les chercheurs et qui a entraîné sa patrimonialisation en 2005, ont fait de San Basilio un emblème de l’« afrocolombianité ». Une étude des répercussions de ces évènements à travers l’évolution du groupe de musique traditionnelle du village, les Alegres Ambulancias, est un des exemples nous permettant de comprendre le rôle de la musique en tant que révélateur d’enjeux sociaux, culturels, économiques et politiques contemporains aux échelles globale, nationale et locale, auxquels sont confrontés les musiciens et les sociétés auxquelles ils appartiennent.

San Basilio, an afrocolombian village located in the North of Colombia, was relatively isolated from the outside world lived until the end of the 1970’s. However, after its opening, in the 1980’s, the village’s society began to be confronted with important transformations. The new Constitution of 1991 which recognized Colombia as a « multicultural », « multiethnic » and « multilingual » State, as well as the glorification of the African inheritance of this village promoted by the researchers and which lead to its patrimonialization in 2005, made of San Basilio an emblem of « afrocolombianity ». A study of the repercussions of these events from the evolution of the group of traditional music of this village, the Alegres Ambulancias, is one of the examples allowing one to understand how music reveals contemporary social, cultural, economic and political stakes on a global, national and local scale with which are confronted the musicians and the societies they belong to.
