Reinhard Jirgl übt in seinem Roman Abschied von den Feinden Zeitkritik in doppeltem Sinn. Einerseits verhandelt er die unterschiedlichen Zeitregime im geteilten wie auch im vereinten Deutschland. Dadurch macht er Chronopolitik als Herrschaftsmechanismus des jeweiligen Ordnungssystems sichtbar, verweist zugleich aber auch auf Desynchronisationen innerhalb der Gesellschaft. Beides erlaubt ihm eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit den sozialgeschichtlichen Begebenheiten seit der Nachkriegszeit. Anhand der vom Autor formulierten Kritik wird auch das Zeitkonzept deutlich, auf dem Jirgls Verständnis von Gegenwart, Vergangenheit und Zukunft beruht. Demnach ist die Vorstellung von Zeit als Abfolge homogener, leerer und identischer Einheiten hinfällig, da sich Zeit vielmehr performativ materialisiert.

In his novel Abschied von den Feinden, Reinhard Jirgl questions time in two ways. On the one hand, he puts to the fore the different time regimes in both divided and unified Germany. Chronopolitics is exposed as a mechanism of rule of the respective political system. In addition, the author uncovers desynchronizations within the society. Both approaches allow him to debate critically certain sociohistorical events of the German postwar period. Based on his critique the author develops his own concept of time, which is the foundation of his understanding of past, present and future. Thus, the idea of time as a set of homogeneous, empty and identical units cannot hold, because time materializes in a performative way.

Dans son roman Abschied von den Feinden, Reinhard Jirgl propose une double critique de son époque. D’une part, il interroge les différents régimes temporels dans l’Allemagne divisée, puis unifiée. Ce faisant, il dévoile que la chronopolitique est un mécanisme de domination propre à tout régime politique, tout en révélant les désynchronisations au sein de la société. Cela lui permet d’examiner de manière critique les événements socio-historiques depuis l’après-guerre. La critique formulée par l’auteur permet également de comprendre sur quelle conception du temps repose sa propre compréhension du présent, du passé et du futur, à savoir une remise en question de la notion du temps comme unité homogène, vide et identique, le temps se matérialisant plutôt de manière performative.
