Les processus qui accompagnent l’entrée des Juifs dans la modernité ont trouvé une expression concrète dans la multiplication de nouveaux espaces. Notre étude porte sur une nouvelle de Isaac Bashevis Singer qui témoigne de la brisure des cadres anciens. L’analyse porte également sur le hegdesh, l’asile de nuit pour les pauvres, les vagabonds, les marginaux, et le kloyz, l’oratoire privé dans lequel priaient et étudiaient des mystiques. La mutation de la société juive traditionnelle se traduit par l’évolution des lieux anciens et l’émergence d’espaces des marges.
