Résumé 0

The Annual Bibliography of France History: a Tool for Research After the end of world war II, the absence of a national bibliography appears in France all the more regrettable since many of western countries have already started again their similar publications. The Annual Bibliography of France History was reborn in 1955 under the aegis of members of French committee of historical sciences, especially Julien Cain, that was general administrator of the national library. A collaboration began between the France library and the CNRS: the national library offered an office and opened access to its collections. The CNRS provided human means and carried out the edition of annual volumes that soon represented one of its best sales. The work method defined in 1955 is still the basement of the present work: inventory of French and foreign thesis and works; analysis of numerous journals, symposiums and collective works; classification of notes according to a thematic plan corresponding to great specialties in the historical field. The Annual Bibliography of France History is periodically adapted to historical science progress and organization. Keeping the same work organisation at the French library, the administrative responsibility of the Annual Bibliography of France History passed in 1969 to the Centre of documentation in human sciences of the CNRS and in 1979 to the Institute of modern and contemporary history newly created by the CNRS. In 2005, the Annual Bibliography of France History is formally welcome in the new agreement between the CNRS and France national library. The team in charge with this work has always been limited and has known several times staff reductions that threatened its existence. The Annual Bibliography of France History’s computerizing has begun in the early 1980’s but is not yet on the web; this passage is essential to stay connected to the historical present practices.
