Comment oublier l’œuvre insurpassée de Jean-Claude Perrot, sa capacité à faire interagir les savoirs et les pratiques économiques et statistiques, notamment en histoire urbaine ? Ce numéro lui rend hommage par une évocation de ses travaux, suivie de deux thématiques qui lui étaient chères : la mesure en sciences sociales et la mesure de l’espace. Les trois premières contributions, croisant histoire et, respectivement, mathématiques, sociologie et biométrie, illustrent l’ambition de décloisonner les tensions entre dimensions qualitatives et quantitatives. Les trois contributions suivantes abordent les transformations dans l’organisation spatiale à l’aune de critères quantitatifs dans des domaines extrêmement sensibles de nos jours, à savoir l’éducation nationale et la localisation/identification des personnes. How can we forget the unrivalled legacy of Jean-Claude Perrot, his capacity to interweave economic and statistical knowledge and practices, notably in urban history, his special field of interest? This issue pays tribute to this remarkable scholar through an evocation of his work, followed by two topics that he held dear: measurement in the social sciences and measurement of space. The first three contributions, combining history with mathematics, sociology and biometrics, respectively, illustrate an ambition to break down the barriers between qualitative and quantitative dimensions. The following three articles discuss transformations in spatial organization based on quantitative criteria in two highly sensitive areas, namely the French education system and the localization/identification of individuals.
