A couple of years back I taught American History at the Université Bordeaux III (Michel Montaigne) as a visiting professor. Among other things I taught a lecture class on African American History in French (not an easy task for someone who is used to speaking and writing in English) and I realized that there was, at the time, no comprehensive French text on the subject matter at hand.
