Se situant aux confluents de l’anthropologie sociale et de la psychologie clinique, cette enquête vise à analyser le rôle de l’offrande florale en tant qu’élément déclencheur de processus potentiellement thérapeutiques dans la pratique d’un rite dévotionnel hindou, le darśan. Ce travail vise à analyser les mécanismes sensoriels et psychiques mis en branle par le rite et notamment par l’offrande florale, ces derniers ayant pour effet d’induire des remaniements psychiques permettant l’atténuation ou la disparition des symptômes affligeant une population de dévots souffrant de troubles dépressifs et anxio-dépressifs avérés. D’une part, l’offrande florale participerait à la construction d’une interaction émotionnellement et affectivement réparatrice avec la déité. D’autre part, à travers la sollicitation sensorielle et notamment celle de l’odorat, l’offrande florale contribuerait à l’expression à des contenus mnésiques archaïques et inconscients.

Situated at the junction between social anthropology and clinical psychology, this article aims to analyse the role of flower offering as a factor triggering potentially therapeutic processes in the practice of darśan, a devotional Hindu ritual. Sensory and psychical mechanisms activated by flower offering will be described and analyzed in a population of darśan devotees showing symptoms of depressive disorder and mixed anxiety and depressive mood disorder. The main purpose is to show how flower offering can contribute to the enhancement of psychical condition in this population. On the one hand, I will try to demonstrate how flower offering participates in the creation of an affective and emotionally restorative interaction with the deity. On the other hand, an attempt will be made to show the way flower offering can contribute to the expression of archaic unconscious contents through the solicitation senses and notably smell.
